Tim Hoelscher

Tim Hoelscher is a Washington, DC-area writer whose work explores the darker edges of human experience. His fiction has appeared with Dread Stone Press, The Horror Tree, Waxing & Waning and The Chamber Magazine, among others. He is a member of the Horror Writers Association, Maryland Writers’ Association and Codex Writers and holds an MFA in Creative Writing.

Tim began writing short fiction at an early age, later turning to poetry and songwriting as an outlet during his adolescence. In high school and college, he played in post-punk bands in the Washington, DC area, an influence that continues to shape his prose. The rhythm and atmosphere of that music—and the textures of the city itself—carry through his work, where shadowed streets and unseen histories often take on lives of their own.

In addition to writing, Tim studied wood- and metalworking at the Corcoran College of Art and Design and the Art League of Alexandria. That sensibility of building, shaping and ultimately confronting the fragility of those creations recurs throughout his fiction. His stories often grapple with decay, transformation and the boundary between destruction and renewal.

When he’s not writing, Tim runs Gavagai, an online writing community and literary platform. His ideal days are spent with his wife and their dogs, cats, goats and chickens.
