Patricia Franz is a children’s author and poet. She writes with a love for the natural world about our connections to place and to one another. Her stories and poetry always begin with a long, loving look at the real.
Her children’s poems appear in the Pomelo Books anthologies: Things We Feel (2022), Things We Wear (2022), What Is a Friend? (2022), What Is Hope? (2023), and Clara’s Kooky Compendium of Thimblethoughts and Wonderfuzz (2024). She also has two poems in Picture Perfect Poetry: An Anthology of Ekphrastic Nature Poetry for Students (2024). Her adult poems have been published in The Write Launch (2024), Poets for Science (2025), and RockPaperPoem (2025). Patricia writes with the online Poetry Friday community each week, sharing both kidlit and adult poetry on her blog: Reverie. She is active in two SCBWI regions (AZ and SF) where she enjoys monthly deep dives into picture book craft. And she has found a home with Inked Voices, a richly resourced, supportive online writing community. Before committing herself full-time to writing, Patricia earned degrees in Business (B.S. Management) and Theology (M.A. Children’s Spirituality). She writes as an investment in hope, believing: We may not be able to give our children a peaceful world, but we can give the world peaceful children. To nurture wonder in children is to build the future. Some notable moments in her life: The owner of the San Francisco Giants turned down her request (at the age of 8) to be a ball-girl. She lived in a tree house for two months outside Kenai, Alaska. Post-retirement, she rode her bike 450 miles from the Sierras to the sea in seven days. Patricia grew up in Northern California. She and her husband raised two sons and four dogs in Arizona. Today, they split their time between the Sonoran Desert and the Sierra Nevada mountains. When she’s not writing, you will find her cycling, hiking with Bonny, her Bernese Mountain dog, and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joys: toddlers (especially one named Grayson), octogenarians, and sourdough. They all wish the same thing: kiss me; hug me; tell me you love me.
