Michael Calladine
Michael Calladine grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. A Midwesterner at heart, Michael left the great state of Ohio after gaining a sense of adventure and humanitarianism while attending Antioch College! The son of two social workers, Michael learned to drink wine with Nuns in France and took Buddhist vows with a Zen Master in India! After working with children with severe behavioral problems, Michael eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams of writing. His passion for writing came from his Mother, Carole, who he feels blessed to have co-authored several books before she passed away. A devoted Father of two brilliant, yet kooky daughters, Michael writes between naps with his youngest and pays the bills as a Game Show Producer for CBS’s Let’s Make a Deal and ABC’s Press Your Luck!
In loving memory…
As a master's level social worker and family life educator, Carole Calladine wrote two parenting books: Raising Siblings…Raising Brother and Sisters without Raising the Roof and One Terrific Year: Supporting Your Kids Through the Ups and Downs of Their Year. These books led to articles written for Health & Medical Horizons, The Many Dimensions of Family Practice, Parents’, Essence, Family Circle, and Ohio Magazine. For seven years she co-authored You and Your Teen-ager for Cleveland’s Sunday edition of The Plain Dealer. Carole became a popular speaker and workshop leader throughout the United States and Canada and was a regular Friday guest on a televised morning talk show.
Writing flourished as one of Carole's passions. Her memoir, Second Story Woman, was published as Carole dove into writing and critique groups to further her craft. She became a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and served on the executive board as the Photography Coordinator for the SCBWI Ohio North region. In 2018, she was selected as the Volunteer of the Year. She was also a member of the 12 x 12 Picture Book Challenge and Sisters in Crime writing communities.
Retired, Carole taught creativity, soul collage, and writing at various venues such as writing conferences, lifelong learning programs, and public libraries.
Carole’s love of reading and writing were so much a part of her. And she worked endlessly in perfecting her craft and in the projects that she co-authored with her son, Michael and her husband, Andy.
Taken much too soon, Carole had the ability to shine—her smile lighting up every room. We are blessed to continue her legacy and her desire to inspire others with her stories.
