Leigh Lewis
|
Leigh Lewis wrote her first story at age eight when she learned about her mom’s childhood dachshund, Otto, who broke his back standing up and waiting at the window for his favorite people to come home from school. She still believes that hero hotdog’s story deserves to be told. She now writes stories for children of all ages. Her middle-grade debut, Pirate Queens: Dauntless Women Who Dared to Rule the High Seas (National Geographic Kids), celebrates six real-life female pirates through poetry. She is drawn to under-recognized voices and little-known topics, often centering stories that give the underdog the spotlight.
When she’s not writing (and often while she is), she’s traveling. Leigh has lived all over the world, including Russia, England, Greece, Turkey, and Japan, before finding her way back, again and again, to Ohio. She is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Turkey, as are her husband and their three incredible kids. Her biggest parenting flex is raising three readers. Leigh’s background is in marketing, and while she still consults on all things business, her heart is in storytelling. She is a board member of the SCBWI Ohio Central and South chapter and has led a monthly critique group for more than a decade. Leigh is represented by Victoria Selvaggio. |
