Julie Hansen is a writer and reader who never goes to bed without a book. Inspired to write by her third-grade teacher, Julie found writing success through school competitions like Power of the Pen and has dreamed of writing ever since.
As a first-generation, bicultural Chinese American, Julie writes stories infused with themes of identity. She wants all children to feel loved and seen, and to delight in the short, but powerful escape books offer. Mostly, she wants her stories to connect with all readers in some way, by making them laugh, answering an unasked question, or surprising them with a new perspective or fact.
Julie graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and worked as a second language teacher for 13 years. She has a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and another Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, which she uses to review picture books and create educational content on her website, Little Big Picture Books. She is also a member of SCBWI, 12x12 and Rate Your Story and considers herself very lucky to be part of three amazing and supportive critique groups.
When Julie’s not writing, spending time with her husband and three children, or being chased by chickens, you can find her on the pickleball court near Chicago, Illinois.
