Florence Migga wrote her first story as a little girl. It was about a girl who gets lost in a banana field in Uganda—but eventually finds her way home thanks to a magic chicken.
The writing bug had officially taken root.
Florence continued writing all through her childhood. Her imagination guided her hand to write stories about everything from constellations to time travel. She was also chosen as cub reporter for her local city newspaper and went on to be a reporter for both her high school and college newspapers.
In 2010, Florence merged her love of writing and reading when she co-founded the book review blog Book Nerds Across America. The blog remains active after 10 years, and you can still find her and her friends sharing reviews of books, bookish movies, and bookish events. Florence loves reading all genres of books, but especially middle grade and young adult contemporary fiction and fantasy.
Florence never stopped creating fiction of her own, and wrote a few more stories as an adult. Her middle grade novel, THE SUMMER SCRAPBOOK, will be published by Lerner Publishing Group in the spring of 2026. And the story about the magic chicken in the Ugandan banana field? It’s been revised and will be published as THE FORTUNE OF IMMY NAKATUDDE by Putnam Young Readers in spring of 2027.
Currently, Florence loves living in sunny south Florida with her husband and son. When she isn’t writing or working on her tan, Florence enjoys happy hours, brunch, book clubs, and traveling.
