Daniel Stamm was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, where as a teenager he was host of a radio show and editor of a youth magazine. He toured with a theater, studied drama and published a play before he went to Belfast, Northern Ireland, as a peace worker. Two years later, he returned to Germany to go to film school and study screenwriting.
After directing a documentary on rock musician Nick Cave, Daniel moved to Los Angeles and graduated from the American Film Institute’s directing program. In the following years he wrote songs for local singers, became a certified hypnotist and hitchhiked across the U.S. Daniel’s first feature film, A NECESSARY DEATH, premiered at SXSW, before winning the Audience Award at AFI FEST later the same year. His second feature, THE LAST EXORCISM, received a number of international awards and made $65 million at the box office.
After collaborating with M. Night Shyamalan on his NIGHT CHRONICLES, Daniel co-wrote and directed the feature 13 SINS for Dimension, as well as episodes of AMC’s FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, MTV's SCREAM, BBC AMERICA’s INTRUDERS, Blumhouse/Hulu’s INTO THE DARK, Amazon’s THEM: Covenant, and Matt Damon's & Ben Affleck's INCORPORATED on SyFy.
In 2020, Daniel directed the first studio project to go into production during the Covid-19 pandemic, PREY FOR THE DEVIL, for Lionsgate. Released in late 2022, the film made $45 million at the box office.
Venturing into game design, Daniel invented the tabletop game MILLION DOLLAR SCRIPT which was released by Portal Games in 2021. His next design, a bedtime story generator for children, is called A GUIDE TO DREAM TRAVEL. It will be released by Atlas Games in the summer of 2024.
