Beth Tokunow is an author/illustrator living in Los Angeles.
The first “art gig” she remembers is tracing drawings for an animated commercial alongside her father (when he worked for Jay Ward Studios, creators of Rocky and Bullwinkle). She was nine years old.
Since then, she's created visual stories as a fine art painter, illustrator, and film editor. Editing award-winning documentaries for television and the giant screen. While she loves working in the entertainment industry, she knows that it's time to return to her true passion of making picture books.
Beth creates illustrations with pen, ink, watercolor, and sometimes the computer.
Her first picture book came about when author Barbara Bottner saw an exhibit of Beth's paintings and was inspired to write Rosa’s Room (Peachtree Publishers). Beth also illustrated First Grade Stinks, written by Mary Ann Rothman (Peachtree Publishers), which earned a starred review in Publishers Weekly. Will It Be A Baby Brother? written by Eve Bunting (Boyds Mill Press) and Samantha Jane’s Missing Smile, written by Julie Kaplow and Donna Pincus (Magination Press).
The last few years, Beth has been hibernating in her studio even more than usual. She loves starting the day before the sun comes up, drawing, playing with paint, and developing scribbles from her journals into picture books. Beth now has several stories she hopes will make their way into the hands and hearts of children.
