Becky Hohensee is a writer of picture books who is passionate about combining fact and fiction in crafting stories that take readers on adventures to places they have never seen, introducing them to experiences they never had, and making them feel excited and hopeful along the way.
As a former social worker with a BA in Child, Family and Social Services and a Master’s of Social Work, Becky built a career as a pediatric social worker with a strong emphasis on advocacy and social justice. Her writing reflects the value and worthiness of children’s voices in stories.
But, Becky’s crowning achievement is that of being a mom to her three adult sons: Gabe, Hayden and Jack, who served as her first beta-readers many years ago. It was their treasured time reading together that sparked her passion to write and she’s been writing ever since.
A willful learner, Becky is a long-term member of SCBWI, a former member of 12 x 12, a member of the Louisiana Library Association, and most recently was selected as a Rosie J. Pova Mentee to complete her Picture Book Mastery Program.
When not writing, Becky can be found at a yoga class, in her kitchen cooking up a Cajun concoction, or roaming the streets through the historical districts of New Orleans in search of a new story. She lives in South Louisiana with her husband, Garett and the most-devoted chocolate lab, Roux.
