Avery Grant
|
Avery Grant grew up drawing, and when she wasn’t creating art, she was getting lost in books. Her love of visual storytelling naturally led her to become a children’s book illustrator.
She earned a BFA in Illustration with a minor in Art History from the Fashion Institute of Technology and completed an Illustration Residency at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She also gained firsthand publishing experience as a Children’s Design Intern at ABRAMS and continues to stay closely connected to books and readers through her work as a bookseller at Words on Warren. Avery creates character-driven illustrations that evoke warmth, nostalgia, and a sense of wonder. She is especially drawn to magical creatures, expressive animals, adventurous friendships, and stories with a touch of mystery and silliness. Her process often begins with traditional pencil sketches, which help preserve a playful, loose quality in her work. She then develops her illustrations in Procreate using textured brushes inspired by traditional media. She also works in ink, gouache, colored pencil, watercolor, and alcohol marker, with final refinements completed in Photoshop. Avery is an active member of SCBWI and Julie Hedlund’s 12x12 Picture Book Challenge. She lives in New York City with her fiancé and their two very mischievous cats. Honors: PB Rising Stars Honorable Mention (2026) Avery is represented by Jackie Garcia-Morales. |
