First, there was a  teacher who loved books almost as much as she loved little children. Then, there was an artist who loved pirates, almost as much as he loved cats. As it turns out, that artist could also write, and that teacher loved the pirate stories he wrote. And she shared those stories with the children she taught. The children loved the pirate stories; they also loved the cats. They wanted more stories with pirates and cats. They also wanted an adventure! And the stories gave them so many adventures! And that is that: Storm Literary Agency came about because it needed to. The children requested it. And so did the cats. 

Storm Literary Agency welcomes submissions from unique and talented authors and illustrators, those who are not afraid to embrace their capacity to teach, to entertain, to engage and to honor young people who, hopefully, will be changed by the work represented here.

Dorina Lazo Gilmore is a blogger, speaker, teacher, and coach. She is the author of three books for children and one volume of poetry. Her book, Cora Cooks Pancit, won the “Picture Book of the Year” from the Asian American Librarian’s Association and has been chosen as one of the top diverse books on several lists. Cora Cooks Pancit was chosen by One Book, One San Diego as the Picture Book selection in 2014.

Dorina travels across the country sharing her books and passion for culture and cooking. Dorina grew up on the South Side of Chicago in a multi-ethnic family and moved to California after college. She attended Calvin College for her bachelor degree in English with minors in Spanish and Journalism. She received an MFA degree in Children’s Literature from Hollins University. A former journalist, Dorina also taught at California State University, Fresno and Fresno Pacific University.

Dorina lives with her husband and three daughters in Fresno, California. She loves visiting the ocean, running marathons, and creating new recipes in her spare time.
